The equals sign? (=) doesnt work in chat. why?

Well alot of people in my chat regulary use smilies such as =D and =O et. but today I just noticed that the = sign no longer displays in chat, you cant even type it if you try it just becomes a plus sign

anyone know why? or what im doing wrong

I'm able to do it... are you holding down Shift while pressing = ?
Try again.. and tell me what happens...

Ye alan is right, I am still able to do that. So like alan said are you holding down the shift or something and if you need any further help with this just reply with your answer.

nope no shift key, just the when I try to put equals in the chat box the = comes out as + and yes I tryed shift and stuff and it doesnt work either way I just get +
