If you want more privacy you can set your chat box to be for members only. This is ideal if you want a chat box just for family of friends. Only members are allowed to post messages and only members can view the messages.

Note that when visitors arrive at your chat box they won't be able to post but they can private chat owners and moderators and ask to join.

To set your chat box for members only:

Click on: http://www.rixon.net/images/EditYourChat.gif
Then click: http://www.rixon.net/images/ExtraFeatures.gif
Then scroll down until you see (in "other options"):
http://www.rixon.net/images/MembersOnly.gif
And make sure the box is checked.
Then press the "Update these options" button. :D

I'm very happy to see this but how does it work exactly? How does it know who are members who are visitors?

You have to make members. That means you or a moderator needs to be online when visitors come along. Members are shown by being blue.

Oops. Sorry about that's a bug that'll be fixed soon. You can work around ot by bookmarking the edit page on the web and by not clicking the "Extra features" button until we have fixed it . :o

You can see them turn up (green) and they can Private Chat or Private Message Owners and Mods or you can to them. Until they are made member (or mod) they can't see any messages.

thankyou. I'm actually on and saw 2 on so made them members.Once you make them members and they go offline and come back, will they be members or is this something you have to do over and over again.Hopefully once you make them member,it sticks unlike the ban button.Thankyou so much for adding the members only feature,I love it and appreciate it so much. Now I can put my chat back where I used to have it without worrying about unwanted guests.Thankyou!!!!!:)

Yes the member status should stick. Unlike ban there is no incentive for people to shake it off!

Hi..i am new to this, i did do a members only and applied the above settings. But we are still getting unwanted guests, so i ban them but they keep coming back. Any suggestions? Or is the chat box open for all to see?

Thank you, but i'm not having that problem anymore. Just one more question.
I have a member that can't join in, is it because he uses a MAC pc and
doesn't use windows xp? Everytime he tries to put in a username it
redirects him to this home page.
Thank you.

Thanks crisrixon, that is no longer a problem. But i am still getting unwanted guests all the time. I have clicked the boxes for members only and don't include on any lists or charts, then updated. I have even clicked on turn off lobby features, i'm confused? Am i doing something wrong?

I use it on my forum which is...

I would appreciate it if you can help as i am new to this. If not then i will have to delete it
from my forum.
Cheers.

Just an other little question...if for some reasons my settings are correct,
then with all these names popping up would i say that the xat box is not
at all private? and any one can see what we are chatting about?

chris

The don't include on lists hasn't been implemented yet, sorry i'll get that in ASAP.

If you have set members only then non members can sign in and see a list of who is online but they can't see the messages. They can private chat with an owner or mod.

Does this clarify? Chris.

Question about making the chatbox private.....
I have made "most" of the people on my board "members" of the chat room, however, there are a few still not signed up yet.
If I lock down the chat box now, can I still allow the members of my board to join the chatbox? If so, when they log in and are "green", can I ask them to change their "default" name to their user name on the board and then make them a member?
Thanks!

Yes but remember you can only member them if you are online. It migh be best to start open, member your friends and then make it members only.

I don't have a check box to make it private. If I understnad correctly the members of my website have to be members of the chatbox before they can chat? They can't chat right off like on a shout box?

chris

If its members only only members can see the messages.

Can you Private message me the address so I can have a look?

Are you sure your mods haven't made undesirables members?

Chris.

Hello, I am new to Xat.com and I made a chat box to put on my myspace profile page to be able to chat with more than one friend at a time (the only feature that myspace I.M. has available at the time) and all I see is a black box with a big smiley face with sunglasses. Friends that visit my page say they can see my chat box. If I go to a friends page that also has a xat chat box I can only see that same smiley face guy not the actual chat box. What did I do wrong? Any help will be greatly appreciated
