View Full Version : deactivate animation in profiles/xatspace

Ok...in case this topic isn't very clear..I would like to suggest for the registered/subscribed user animations(such as the animations for avatars;example:lights flashing around a user's avatar and other animations alike) and animated background effects(such as flashing colores and what-not)to be turned off in profiles/xatspace. ...OR,if possible...to make it so that ONLY OTHER registered and subscribed Xat users can see these things,where-as non-register/non-subscribed Xat users cannot, and only see normal white profiles/xatspaces as if they are viewing said profiles/xatspaces before these effects were made. The reason I am suggesting this idea,is because I myself am NOT subscribed OR registered with Xat...BUT it is annoying AS WELL AS distracting to me when, for example,I am trying to look at a register/subscribed friend's avatar on the profile/xatspace,and they have all these flashing light effects basically covering their avatar and making it hard to make out their avatar picture under the light effects..and again, the background animation, such as a flashing colors is annoying and distracting when I am trying to a read a friend's profile/xatspace,and the flashing colors make it hard to read. Just to be clear here...I do NOT have a problem with profile/Xatspace background PICTURES,I just think the light effects be able to be seen in profiles/xatspaces is annoying when I am looking at a friend's avatar and/or trying to read their said profile. With ALL that said,Xat,PLEASE do something about this

Why would you want to do that? That's kinda harsh if you ask me...:(

Yea i agree with you..when someone has a picture that i wanna see clearer and up close i click on their profile to take a look at it and boom..there's those christmas light things circled all around the pic and i can't even make it out.

Sixaxis's post is one of the reasons..and also as I already stated,it is annoying(the animation on avatatars in profiles/xatspaces),and color flashes are annoying to me also,as well as distracting when I am trhying to read a friend's(or just another user's) profile/xatspace. Also,as I stated before,...maybe it doesn't have to be nessacerily COMPLETELY deactivated..just somehow,if possible, make it so the animation and what-not only shows up for other reagister/subscribed users.

I agree, but you could also get the Zoom Power (If your a subscriber), and see a bigger image without seeing the effects.

that is true...BUT if you read what I said,I -ALSO- said that the animations could at least be turned off for people who are NOT registered/subscribed(if such is even possible). That way people who are not not yet registered and/or people who may not want to subscribe will not have to worry about doing so,and profiles/xatspaces would just look plain(with the except of a background,if a user has one) for non-registered/non-subscribed users that view them.

Yes, but couldn't you just ask the user for a link to their avatar?

you could...but the point of a profile/xatspace is mostly to be able to view their profile AND look at any member info they may have put AT THE SAME TIME,thus making it to so that you do not HAVE to a bug a user for a link to their avatar.

Yeah, but if the person has a small avatar that they made (eg, 32 x 32), then it would be no use because it would just be pixels.

yes,but in which case,if a user DOES have a small/pixelated avatar, and if they had the avatar animation on,you still wouldn't be able to make out the picture, but you might STILL would like to view their profiel/xatspace for their user info, and if they have the profile/xatspace animation(flashing colors and such) then you still might have difficulty in reading their user info, thus you still might desire to have the animations off

Wow, this is turning into some argument. xD
Let's see if i can end it.
Reasons why there should be a option for deactivating animations in xatspaces
1. Those bright lights can cause damage to some peoples eyes! And no they should not have to turn the brightness on their computer down, because then they might not be able to read the words.
2. If you ask a person for their avatar/picture when your not able to see it on their xatspace because of the annoying effects, they may think your trying to use their avatar/picture to impersonate them, and kick/ban you!
3. Personally to me (and other people), a lot of pics look better WITHOUT the effects. So people should have the option to view the side they enjoy best.
4. Some people may have slow internet and those animations DO slow down and lag people when they click on a persons profile because it adds more things for the page to load up.
5. Really now, do i actually have to pay 300 xat coins for zoom JUST to see a persons avatar/picture correctly?! I should be able to click on my name and check a box saying: "Turn off Animations on xatspaces"!!!
I'd like to see someone combat that. http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff168/Maraphy/Xat/D.png
