I posted this in the kick/ban thread under mobile, but I should make it its own thread.

"Yet Xat should also try something though text messaging. MSN does it with its mobile project. Where you can chat with your friends list contacts through text messaging to their xat private chat or something.

Like with MSN Text Mobile. You send "Cl" to a number, and it replies with a list of contacts that are online. Then you reply to that with the number of the contact and an intro message (or no message at all if you want to see who it really is) and then you start a convo.

I think this will work for those (like me) who have a texting phone but not a smart phone. I have a Motorola Hint QA30 "

this would be a good idea.. however you would have to pay alot for each message..

currently m.xat.com is on there internet and mostly free for users, depending on what package they have with there service provider ect..

As yo would be sending messages it wouldn't be free unless you have unlimited free texts.. however if xat then charged for the service then this could be sky high.. so for thoughs reasons i think its a good idea however i do not support it.

GREAT IDEA! I'm not sure if the other two musketeers below me understood what you posted http://s681.photobucket.com/albums/vv179/Sorrowz/Xat/Smileys/d.gif But this would be awesome especially if you didn't have to pay for the Contact List send to a number thing. But since I might of interpreted your post wrong, I'll post below what I think is what you mean.

"This is a feature that allows you to see the current people online in your friends list for Xat Mobile! (m.xat.com) You see all you have to do is send a text message in a certain format to a number that xat has assigned, and within minutes later you get a return message showing which of your friends are online, and what chat they're at if they have you added back! Then you can reply back to one of your online contacts through text messaging!

Well I don't know if anyone is familiar with the Mobile MSN thing.

Because m.xat.com doesn't work on my Openwave Browser on my cell phone and its prepaid anyway so I would get charged 10 cents a minute to use it anyway. But with Mobile MSN, here is, step by step, how it works. (I might make a vid at some point as well)

-First, you register with MSN so that they have your cell phone number with your login ID. Xat could do the same, where you can register your cell phone number with your Xat ID.

-Next, MSN will send you a message, which is the message you reply "Cl" to to get your contact request. You store this number in your contacts list so at anytime, you can send "Cl" to that number.

-When you send "cl" to that number, an automated message will appear, which will look like this on your phone...

"-CONTACTS-
1. Contact 1 [of course these will have names]
2. Contact 2
3. Contact 3"

-Now you reply to this automated message to start a convo. Lets say you want to talk to contact number 2. You reply this...

"2 Hey whats up?"

-Now your recipient would get a message and it would be just like a normal text messaging conversation. The entire process is through text messaging, so it doesn't cost anything extra.

Ahh ok I see.. so your not replying to your contacts directly-- your replying to the Xat number and it converts the text message into a chat message and redirects it onto the designated user.. Still a good idea like before Nite, but the problem is if this was ACTUALLY made, it would most likely cost extra instead of being free like the regular m.xat.com because of the all the trouble of the process of sending just one message to a contact.

I don't see why not, its all automated anyway. Just like MSN is. Once the programming is done, all it will be is a bunch of filling in numbers.

Such as the code will have 2 gaps in it. The Xat ID and the phone number. Everything else in the code will do the same thing.

I might contact Microsoft on behalf of Xat and see if they can get a hold of a programmer and see how hard it would be.
