I think of a number add 15, and divide by 5 my answer is 6 what was the number i was thinking of ? :p

Lets call your number X

so

X = 15 - (5 * 6)

same as

(6 * 5) - 15 = X

and (6 * 5 = 30) so 30 - 15 = 15

So your number must be 15.

X = 15

X + 27 - 12 / 5 = 3

Assuming the X has no part of the equation, the new equation would be:

27 - 12 / 5 = 3

And by looking at the new equation, it's answer is correct as if the X wasen't needed.

So the only number that could be added to a equation without changing it's final answer and without using multiplication is:

0 + 27 - 12 / 5 = 3 Answer = 0
