They basicuay compress your image files for uploading to websites to speed up download time... HOWEVR they are old applications and honslty are un-needed now because of inventions like broadband... lol thease were made back in dialup days xDDD

Lets put this in a nerdy way. Image compression is the application of data compression on digital images. In effect, the objective is to reduce redundancy of the image data in order to be able to store or transmit data in an efficient form.

Lol Twiggy, it's a program that reduces the file size of pictures without reducing the quality/look of it. Example --
Six: This picture of a pumpkin is too big, it's file size is 865 KB!
Six: Oh right I have Image Optimizer installed *Uses Image Optimizer on the pumpkin picture*
Image Optimizer: Task finished, your picture has been reduced from 865 KB to 620 KB without reducing its quality. Thank you for using Image Optimizer.
Six: Much better. Now the picture takes up less space, and takes less time to upload to photobucket.com or tinypic.com !
The only real confusing thing about this thread was this--

lol. Resizing on photoshop makes the image smaller, or bigger. The Image Optimazer changes the FILE SIZE of the image, making it[filesize] smaller so you can hold more on your computer.
