Hi there, Xat is a wonderful chat box but the only thing thats holding me back from using it is I haven't seen good security methods. I need my chatters to feel safe. We have to have owners in there 24/7? People can't guarantee that. Since mods can only ban for 6 hours they really can't ban someone that really wants to troll. The troll could just come back after 6 hours.
I'd even be willing to pay for any extra bandwidth costs. This could be a way for xat to make some extra money, they can charge a bit for users wanting to use this feature.
If we could have logs of the chats, and there could be a feature that deletes them after a couple days which wouldn't take up bandwidth, or have it sent to an owners email.
Another way is to give users a code so they can store the chat logs on their own servers, so no bandwidth used on xat.
Logs that have a way to ban someone even when that chatter wouldn't currently be in the chat, so that mods wouldn't have to wait all day for the trolls to come back.
Thank you!

This is a good idea :)
especially the part where we could store it on our own servers

I agree with this feature. One time, I was the owner of TWB, and I left for the day. The next morning, someone reported the chat while I left. The report was that someone took possesion of main ownership and changed the background to an inappropriate one. As a result, TWB is now deleted. So yeah, if this feature was released, the chat deletion could have been avoided.

i quite like this idea altough it could be quite expensive if only a couple of people are willing to pay for it.

I have talked to admins about this idea in past. It was discussed to have something like /i . It is on the long list they are working on. I think we will def. see it in future just don't know when.

I'm so glad there are many people that would like to see this too! I wish there were a way to forward the suggestion to the designers of Xat. I haven't seen how yet but I'm glad other people have too.
Yes if just this thing could be made I'll be a devoted Xatter :D
I saw that Xat volunteers are the ones that answer the suggestions page. Do they forward it to the designers because aren't suggestions meant for designers to see? hehe

Its been a while since I asked and I was wondering if there is an update on this? I really would love to use Xat, but this is the only thing keeping me from using it.

there is the /i where you can tell who has typed on the scroller

Thanks but it doesn't say who has banned recently, I only see it showing who has pressed /s and /p. Which is who has gagged guests for an hour, and who has made a scroller message.
There also is no way to see what really happened in the chat if we can't see the messages that led up to the ban. Moderators or chatters could not be telling the truth and the owner wouldn't have a way of knowing. There also still wouldn't be a way to ban someone when they are not in the chat. Which makes mods have to wait 24/7 for a troll to come back.

When a person is banned, sometimes people will report an "Un-fair Bann". Once reported it sends a letter to your e-mail of why the person was banned. And it also shows half of the conversation.
But sometimes people don't report it. So you won't get a report from everyone.

The only way you can see a lead up to a ban is if a person reports a ban. With the present system you just have to get mods you trust. If you want a log of whos banned you can always have a forum/ blog of your own on chat which the mods/owners can update with a list of banned ppl /ids/ date and reason for ban etc. That way if you have a chat reset you know who persistent offenders are.

Okay, thank you! I hope maybe sometime in the future Xat can find a way to make something like this happen. It might involve getting creative with codes. Its really hard for some people to find mods they really can trust. I've had mods saying the other moderator was abusing their powers when I wasn't around and there was no way for me to verify that. I felt like people at the Salem Witch Trials, where all someone had to do to make someone guilty was make a dishonest hearsay claim.
Oh this is great, what if we could make this feature available to Moderators too and extend the length of the message that is sent (because half of the message isn't really good, sometimes we need the whole message)
The reason is Moderators are more likely to use this feature when ever they do moderator type things. I can require all moderators to use it when the to mod actions. I'd definitely convert to Xat if we can do this. Wouldn't it only take a couple modifications of a feature Xat already has?

I can only see where it says it is only available to people who were just banned. However what if a regular person wanted to report someone acting up, or a moderator? If we could make it available to them this would basically take away the need for having chat logs.
However I think it would still be good to have an additional feature where owners can ban peoples ID's even when they are not in the chat. So people wouldn't have to be alert all day waiting for the trolls to come back.
