Post Chatbox is resource needy sometimes

I'm sure for a lot of you your computer goes sort of slow while using the chatbox, especially for people who have older computers and/or if your in a room with a lot of people talking at once. It's the worst in rooms with a lot of people at one time. I have an Intel Pentium 4 3.20Ghz and sometimes the CPU usage will soar to 40% in some rooms , It usually always stays at about 20%-30% if people talk some, If they don't talk at all then it will be idle instead, This might be worse for people with older computers , I also hear my friends talk about how the chatbox sometimes makes their computer slow and sometimes it's caused mine to freeze.

I wonder why it is somewhat resource needy at times, Is it because it is Flash ?
And is there anything I can do to reduce the amount of CPU usage if it starts to soar?
Will turning off sound reduce the CPU usage? I haven't tried yet.

Try all of the following:

Right-clicking the chatbox and changing the quality to Low

Turn off sound

Add all spammers and people who over-use the smilies to your ignore list

Avoid having multiple windows/tabs if you can

Turning off sound and quality helps a lot.
Thanks for the help, I'll tell my friends these tips also, It reduced my usage in one room from 20% to 3-5% which is a big improvement.
